After four years of groundbreaking work, the UP4HEALTH project has officially concluded. This Horizon 2020-funded initiative pioneered a sustainable biorefinery approach to transform agro-industrial by-products—such as olive pomace, grape pomace, and nut residues—into high-value functional ingredients for the food, beverage, cosmetics, and nutraceutical industries.
The project achieved remarkable milestones, including the validation of functional ingredients for diverse applications, ensuring market-readiness while maintaining compliance with the highest safety and quality standards. The innovative eco-design approaches and life cycle assessments implemented throughout UP4HEALTH reflect its commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles.
The consortium, comprising 10 partners from five European countries, collaborated closely to deliver transformative solutions that address environmental, economic, and social challenges. By successfully developing market-ready ingredients and optimizing sustainable processes, UP4HEALTH has set a benchmark in the European bioeconomy sector.
While the project has officially concluded, its impact will continue through the innovative products and methodologies developed. The UP4HEALTH team extends its gratitude to all partners and stakeholders for their support and collaboration throughout this journey.
